I just upgraded my camera–to a Canon R5. If you don’t know anything about cameras, just know that this is the Canon model for wildlife photography. The same one that many professionals swear by. The IT GIRLTM of wildlife cameras, if you will.

And yes, it cost me a pretty penny.
And yes, I will be paying it off for the foreseeable future.

But it’s all worth it, because I now have subject tracking and eye autofocus. Which means my camera can now not only stay focused on a moving subject, but also find the EYE of that subject.

I don’t know if you all realize how game-changing this is for me. I mean, I’ve been trying to get decent photos on a failing camera for an unspeakable amount of time, and now I just hold this sorcery in my hands??

But anyway, I’ll stop geeking out over my new gadget, which didn’t take the photos in this post. But you might have already surmised that, since it’s August and it’s been many months since a snowflake has fallen.

These shots were taken on December 5, 2024. The power had unexpectedly gone out, and with my laptop battery dead, I couldn’t really get any work done. But there was a fresh layer of snow on the ground, so I decided to abandon my responsibilities take the morning off and get some photos. And now, eight months later, you get to see them!
Better late than never, right?
