For a couple years now, a pair of Eastern Phoebes have been nesting on my grandparents’ covered porch. They’re a respectable little couple, if a little standoffish (gotta love my fellow introverts).

They move in during the early summer, and then rent out their home to some Barn Swallows (who currently have four babies busting out of the nest). They’ve got to be a Superhost on Airbnb at this point.

I decided to try and get photos of them one afternoon, which turned out to be a relatively difficult task. These little guys are pretty camera shy, and I kept circling around the yard, trying to get a few decent shots as they flitted just out of reach.

It was a hot, humid day, and the sweat was flowing as I not-too-subtly stalked them around like the psychopath that I am. I managed a few decent pictures before I had to call it quits because a thunderstorm was rolling in.

I would like to tell you that I saw them around with their babies a few weeks later, but unfortunately tragedy befell their nest this year due to the ~heinous beast~ we call a Brown-headed Cowbird (no hate, tho).

Perhaps next year I’ll have some baby phoebes to report on. Until then, I wish the couple all the best.
Now take a moment to appreciate this overheating squirrel pls
